If I were to choose one holiday that had no real basis, other than buying candy and spending money, it would be Valentine’s Day. This is because I am one of the happiest people ever! I cry when I hear a sad song, watch a sad movie, or am reminded of a memory from my childhood, so Valentine’s Day had me hook.line.and sinker.
So of course I thought of crafting these sweet pipe cleaner trees. I made them last year but used wine corks as the trunk, but this year I wanted a more rustic look.
You will need:
- Various colors of pipe cleaners
- Twigs (make sure they are thin twigs because you will have to break them into small pieces)
- Glue gun
To make your medium-sized trees you will need to cut your pipe cleaners in half for the branches, for the smaller trees cut them in fourths.
Bend your trunk, or longer (half) pipe cleaner in half, twisting it twice at the end.
Grab 4 small pipe cleaners and place them between your trunk and twist the trunk pipe cleaners tight. Repeat two more times, making sure you are twisting your trunk tight, you don’t want your branch pieces to fall out.
Bend your branches and arrange them into to perfect little tree.
Using your scissors trim your branches from small at the top too long at the bottom.
When you make the base of your tree just eyeball how wide you want it and break your twigs accordingly.
Glue the two smaller twigs to the larger for a flat base.
Cut and twist the trunk of your tree around your twig base, if needed you can add a bit of hot glue to keep it in place. I needed to use my glue gun for the medium-sized trees, but then they stood upright.
These little mini trees make me really happy.
