I’ve been working on my mantle (a lot), and one of the very easy, very quick craft pieces that I added is a “floating snowman.” Here is how I did it!
-3 scraps in different lengths (you’re going for a snowman effect)
-glue to hold fabric together
-wire (I used floral wire because that’s all I had around)
I grabbed a broken dollar tree frame that I had sitting in my cabinet:
I glued the corner piece up
Since it wasn’t very pretty, I spray-painted it, and I let it sit while I worked on everything else.
Grab your three pieces of fabric and make some fabric flowers/yo-yos. Here’s a sort-of ok tutorial on it, lol. There are other versions around on the internet, so don’t be afraid to pick a different one.
Get a piece that’s somewhere around 6″ and then fold it in half like so:
Get your needle and thread. Keep it loose, and I made sure to leave plenty of space, since I wanted a larger ruffle effect.
Once that’s done, push the fabric together so that it will bunch. Make sure that you have enough thread on both ends to tie together.
Once both ends of thread are tied TIGHTLY, it will form a circle. You may need to stitch up the ends of the fabric to complete the flower, but that’s completely up to you.
I did two more in larger sizes, and I glued them onto each other in the shape of a snowman (I don’t have this picture, but you’ll see what I mean in a moment).
Next, you can use your needle or cut out a small hold on the top and bottom of the snowman. Grab 2 pieces of wire (about 3″ in length) and secure one through the top and one through the bottom:
Hook the wires onto the frame (this way you can use the frame again):
When you are done, it should look like this:
Hope you’re enjoying the weekend!
