Tired of browsing for advent calendar gifts? Why not go for a cheap version this year – the paper star advent calendar is practically free, you only need some imagination as to what to write inside each star…
1. Cut a strip of paper 1 x 30 cm / 0.4 x 11.8 in. I use a paper cutter to get the strip nice and straight, but a pair of scissors will do too. Write something beautiful for the one opening the star.
2.-3. Now comes the easy part: Bend the rest of the strip over from side to side. The leftover-tip you tuck under the previous strip.
4. You now have a pentagon and you can clearly see where the stars’ points will come.
5. This photo shows how you can use a credit card to make the points appear. If you want more close-up photos of steps 1-5, check my previous post: DIY Newspaper Stars.
I’ve used a needle and some thread to hang the stars up on the wall. This way it looks good and every day one only has to pull off a star and open it. I made an advent calendar like this for my wife a couple of years ago and then I chose to write compliments and destinations in the house where she could find presents (this way I didn’t have to have all presents ready on the 1st of December, only a list of what I had written inside the stars ;-)).
